Special Update: Response to the Pakistan Floods

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), with funding support from FOCUS and led by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (FOCUS/AKAH), have been at the forefront of responding to the devastating floods and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) that struck Pakistan in June 2025. More than 4,500 people were evacuated through FOCUS/AKAH-trained Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), with over 3,500 volunteers actively engaged in rescue, relief and monitoring operations. FOCUS/AKAH has provided food and non-food support to more than 400 families. AKDN helicopters have transported over 6,200 kilograms of food and medicine and airlifting 171 individuals including critical patients.

The scale of the disaster is immense. Since June, floods and GLOF events have claimed 883 lives, left 1,177 injured and millions displaced. More than 9,200 homes, 239 bridges and 671 kilometers of roads have been damaged, while over 6,000 livestock have been lost. Communities are still reeling from the catastrophic floods of 2022 and 2023, which left billions of dollars in damages and unmet recovery needs. With new resources being mobilized including from FOCUS USA, AKDN continues to strengthen relief, recovery and resilience for the most vulnerable communities across Pakistan.

AKDN agencies in Pakistan have been collectively responding to those affected by the catastrophic floods, in close collaboration with local authorities and the provincial and federal governments.
